First Touch Soccer
Mitch Dubensky

I am a 25-year DC resident and have lived in American University Park for 18 years. I hold a USSF National “Youth” coaching license, a USSF National “C” coaching license and a USSF certified referee. I regularly officiate Stoddert boys and girls recreation games, other travel league games and DC Scores.

I have played, trained and coached soccer for four decades. As a former college player and still playing on the “senior circuit” in various tournaments, I have traveled and played soccer around the globe.

After more than 25 years in the corporate and government world, I decided it was time for a lifestyle change. No longer wanting to dress in business attire, I came to the conclusion that among many passions is to teach children soccer skills while promoting physical education, a healthy lifestyle and competition.

While having the academic credentials to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling livelihood, I’ll never forget that my soccer pedigree was a primary reason for being hired in my first professional position. The “boss” at the time was also a passionate soccer enthusiast and I’m convinced to this day that this was the edge over other candidates.

As a father of a now sixteen year old daughter, we played soccer regularly from the time she was four or five years old. We trained and laughed together and loved the feeling of kicking a ball around. Now a junior at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, she was a starting freshman on the Fall 2005 Independent School League (ISL) Division A championship team. In the Spring of 2005 she was a member of the U13 Maryland state cup championship team and a Region 1 semi-finalist. We still train together when she has the time!

The victory in the over 50 tournament represents the third championship for the club. In the 1980s they won the Over 30 and in the 90s they won the over 40.
